Welcome to The Salvation Army Community Services (Calgary)
This page will hopefully answer a few of the common questions for new staff members.
The IT department at The Salvation Army Community Service (Calgary) consists of one person, Darcy Billingsley. Darcy is responsible for all IT services at the Centre of Hope downtown, Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Center in Killarney, Community Services in Forest Lawn, and our Warehouse operations. Darcy is mainly based out of the Centre of Hope, however travels between sites as needed.
Here at The Salvation Army Community Services (Calgary) we use Outlook for email. This should be installed on every computer and when you open it for the first time it'll ask a series of questions to set up the program. Everything should automatically fill in so all that needs to be done is click on Next, Next, Next, until it's done.
Your email address is typically firstname.lastname@salvationarmycalgary.org unless otherwise specified.
Upon special request custom email addresses can be done as long as they're still professional. An example is if you have an extremely long last name that is constantly misspelled, a custom address of first name plus last initial might be usable.
Email Signatures are automatically added after you send your email for uniformity and consistency across all users. If there's any inaccuracy in the information displayed in the signature, the IT department can correct that for you.
Access to electronic files is determined by your manager. New accounts are typically already configured with access to the files that they need, however sometimes additional access is required. Please contact your manager to request additional access if needed.
Please do not store any documents on the 'Desktop' or 'Documents' on the computer itself. These locations are not backed up in any way and if anything happens to the computer they will be lost. All work documents should be saved on a network drive.
Your manager, supervisor, or co-workers are your best resource if you have questions about where documents should be saved. Each department has it's own file structure and preferences for storage.
If you have an office with a phone of your own, the phone can be set up to display your name if it currently displays an incorrect name. Please contact IT with the name to display (Some limits may apply)
Voicemail is also available, if passwords were not provided please contact IT for setup and/or resetting the passwords for you.
